Usseau
inherited from an important Gallo-Roman heritage(holdings). Certain
recent archaeological discoveries show of the thousand-year-old history
of the municipality and make the exhibition item in its cultural center.
The
priory Saint-Peter was given by Guillaume, Lord of Usseau at the end of
the Xth century in the abbey Saint Florent de Saumur. |

abbey church was destroyed and reshaped during the religious wars. The
Renaissance also made history of Usseau. Indeed, during the religious
wars, the village of Usseau was a center Huguenot
The strengthened church Saint-Peter was primitively the abbey church of
the priory Benedictine Saint-Peter. |

Romanic church of the XIIth century which presents Romanic capitals(big
tops) to big masks, was reshaped with construction of a Gothic chorus.
It was also strengthened and two bartizans frame the west
wall.
It contains gravestones (XVIIth - XVIIIth century) and medieval
sarcophaguses |
